Thanks Adrian! I was just trying to make sure my smoothies were ok to replace the V8. Unfortunately I have gained quite a bit of weight and am over 30lbs from my goal of 120-125 (currently 156). I am 49 years old I weigh 110, recently I have been gaining weight from 105 to 110lbs in the last 9 to 12 months around my stomach I am premenopausal my diet is pretty good vegetables fruits don't eat meat much some protein from chicken, but other sources of protein I drink a glass of wine on occasion I don't drink soft drinks I drink water about 60 oz a day, I do about 3 to 4 days a week of some form of exercise 40 minutes maybe 20 minutes I walk I do stairs in my condo. Without going into ad nauseum details.i do everything right. I am a thyroid hasimoto pt....69. Good energy. 5'8, Weigh 180 I hate it. It won't budge. On right dose. All labs right down the middle very healthy, even have cholesterol under 200 with high good cholesterol..my nutrition is perfect . I walk.CANT LOSE ANYTHING-even if I reduce calories then I am cutting out nutrition cause I don't eat ANYTHING WRONG to cut out!!!! no sugar lo good carbs, blah blah blah . I am so angry I can't stand it nothing works. I have insomnia if I don't have enough protein during the day and often have to eat egg whites at night to get back to sleep cause I eat so little during day. I am going nuts. Help! I have a public job with a nonprofit art programs and need to look nice. Having this 20 lbs is depressing and feel hopeless. I have to haul equipment..Everyone else loses 5 easy I CANT LOSE 1 no matter what I do.

Hey your web is awesome, thank you for this. I am a different case, i am 34 petite woman, 1.64 height. For the last 20 years I have been struggling with my weight. I have a crazy knowledge about nutrition and exercise yet I still havent reached my goal. I go between 53 kg min and 60max. My ideal is 50. At the moment I am 58 and I feel terrible. I did everything to lose weight. I had journals, I counted calories, I run marathons, checked my thyroids, i went to gym 6 days a week, I did low carb diet,i did dukan, I water fasted- 5, 7, and 21 days, i tried vegan, yoga everyday, walked for hours, i cook all my meals,i used cla,lglutamine,tonalin whatever there is, i tired one meal day and life went by like this... i guess science doesnt work on me. Any advice for me?

I try to eat 1200 when I need to lose weight (like now) but it is very difficult so I end up eating 1300-1500 most of the time. Lately i was in a tropical country for 3 months and I had a lot of fruit and boiled rice,and i end up gaining weight. Now cut all the sugar, and taking 90gr of protein a day. My body fat looks like 28 and muscle 34, bones 12, water 49. weight 59!
So far,the only ways I lost weight are water fasting, and dukan diet. And also eating ridiculsly small calories when i was younger. But as soon as i stop counting and live normal I go back to 59-60. I am literate about nutrition so i hardly ever eat processed foods, never ever drink juice or soda, never eat burgers and chips, or fired things, only drink black coffee, eat super foods, raw food etc..my only BAD food would be sometimes pizza, wine, piece of cake, cheese, curry... When i run, my fitbit says I spend 2300-2600 cal. When i only walk its 2100-2300. At the moment I feed my self with veggies, berries, chicken breast, a lot of yogurt, low fat high protein cheese, chia seeds, little olive oil or butter, eggs, low cal almond milk and a little nuts or dried fruit. My carbs is one pack of oat meal (100cal).. Its been 8 days and I havent lost a kilo yet!. ( I stopped any exercise but walking 2 hours different times of the day which makes 18.000 steps) Can you please correct me or just tell me where do I go wrong? Thank you!

For years I dieted thinking... There are 3500 calories in a pound of fat and so you have to burn that amount to lose a pound. This math never really worked and the harder I dieted the less it worked. I finally read a series of books like Good Calories, Bad Calories; Eat to Live; and the Microbiome Diet. What I discovered is that it's all about regulating your metabolism. Animals in studies can literally die of starvation and still be obese. Their bodies will eat their heart tissue before breaking down their fat. You probably know both people who eat anything they want and are skinny and people who simply can't lose weight no matter what they do. Stop counting calories. In the long run it doesn't work. Eat lots of raw non starchy vegetables. Drink plain kefir. Cut out all processed foods including oil, flour, and sugar. Don't eat things that have eaten chemicals and pesticides (only consume organic meats and dary). Eat as many fermented foods like sour kraut, Kochi, and natto etc. That you can. Drink two glasses of low sodium vegetable juice per day. Try to eat two pounds of leafy greens per day. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. This is how you really lose weight.
