Drinking cold water will not help you lose weight. Heat calories (little c) and food Calories (big C) are two different things. A food Calorie is 1,000 heat calories. So even if it cost your body 1,000 heat calories to warm up a glass of cold water (which it doesn't) you would only burn one food Calorie. To put this in perspective you are supposed to eat around 2,000 Calories a day. That equals about 200,000 heat calories. There is a huge difference. It costs your body a lot less to heat up a glass of cold water than it does to burn off food. This is basic physics. Please get your facts straight before you start spreading rumors.

Hi Adrian,I am from Mexico. I have a question, what do you think of JAMAICA FLOWER water? (is like a tea, I am not sure, I believe it is called Hibiscus tea in the US). And also what can you recommend to sweeten Green Tea? I really hate the flavor and last night I did a mix of Jamaica Flower with Green tea to reduce the bitter taste but had to sweeten it with Splenda but I really want to stop using this type of sweetener but not sure which sugar is better, I've heard of stevia or brown sugar but I am not sure which is best, here is hard (and expensive) to get Stevia. Hi, fellow losers or healthy concious folks, I'm 49, female, 5'0" and weigh around 154 lbs. Been working pretty hard for about a month now to make healthy lifestyle changes and lose about 30 lbs. Dropped all sodas- not even diet, cut out those yummy creamers in coffee, cut out sweets. I started an exercise program 4 weeks ago (4-5) flights of stairs as fast as I can walk 1-3 times a day, seven days a week (trust me, great increase in exercise for me and past habits:) A week ago I began a 1200 calorie, 75 carbs, 80 protein, 17 fiber, diet. Most days doing good except having a hard time getting that much protein in without going over on calories or carbs. Average protein has been around 55g. I'm pretty tired most of the time and can't really tell a difference in scales-- fuctuating between 151 and 154 lbs. What the heck? Oh, drinking a minimum of 64oz. of water and many days 80! Have been checked for thyroid and other nutrient problems everything was fine... LDL high but so was HDL. Anybody have any hope or ideas for me? Wisdom would be appreciated!

Hey Emily. I've been having the exact same problem as you. I lost seven pounds by carrying a 1litter water bottle around and drinking about two bottles a day. (Find the water bottles at Walmart.) I also dance around the house or put on music when i'm cleaning. It gets me pumped and lets me move. Also after a healthy dinner that can contain a small breast of chicken , raw veggies , and some more water I walk up and down the stairs 20 times. (Depending on the size of your stairs and how much you can push yourself to do it.) And also if you try these tips never give up on your exercises because one day of not trying will make you lose and eat all the fatty foods again. And give yourself a day were you can have a few sweets or maybe a soda like Sunday! Good luck. Also you can't lose a lot of weight in 1 week. Better luck next time and if you did it would be very unhealthy.

The muscles will help you burn fat around your body. Also consume lots of calcium too. Instead of inhaling a giant meal at once, split the meal into its the size of your fist. Hi, first off, thanks for making this site and inspiring people to lose weight. I am 27, a naturally slim 5'7 at around 65 kilos (143lbs) with a hip-heavy, curvy build. I was rather unfit in December, then registered with a gym as I have time to incorporate a daily workout. Have a workout plan from instructor and been doing it for 2-3 weeks.

I hate monitoring what I eat because it makes me feel like when I was 18 and reminds me of my trials with eating disorders. So I'm no good following a strict plan really but I try to eat healthy and the sports is making me feel better. Overall more toned too, BUT - I am not seeing the weight really come off! Or rather, I can see my belly is more toned and I look better but I still weigh the same! What should I do to improve this?

Unfortunately I am no good in guessing what I want to look like in the end or what I want to achieve, but since Dec. 31st I've been able to count alcoholic drinks and cigarettes on one hand! I want to stick with this, I just wanna know can I do anything better?!

I do the fitness regime (10min walk/run - 40min. muscles big to small - 10min run again) at least 3x a week and some courses when I have time. Help me, please.

I too just had a baby about 3 and 1/2 months ago, my weight was 250 lb the day I went into labor i have been drinking 8-10 glasses of cold water a day and I drink a fruit and spinich shake 3 times a day and a tea of apple cider vinager, turmeric powder, green tea, and organic honey a day. I aslo eat a small amount of any food I eat boiled navy or pinto beans no salt and egg whites, plain tuna in water with tomatoe and corn, or whole grain cherios with skim milk in between my shakes the portion amount should be small, dont over eat. I now weigh 180 but Im not giving up. I feel like the pounds are just falling off. the shake taste like kiwii and the recipe is 2 hand full of baby spinich, 2 bananas, 1 cup of plain non fat yogurt, 1 cup of pineapple chunks, and cup of water. This recipe makes about 3--- 8oz cups, i freeze the rest and defrost an hour before i drink. I also use different fruits so i wont get bord, my fav is papaya. I avoid all white flour including tortillas, breads, pastas, and candies. I stay away from sugars, salt, and only drink water never sodas, coffees, juices, or sport drinks. good luck and be strong your body will get used to the change in your diet. Just dont give up.

dont starve yourself you will only gain more weight. The body goes into starvation mode to protect itself, and that will slow down your weight loss. People on starvation diets invariably find that they regain all the weight they’ve lost (and then some) very quickly as soon as they start eating again. So they key here is not to stop eating but to eat 3 healthy meals a day and a healthy snack a in between meals. Saty off the sodas, juices, breads, candies, sugars, salts, and eat more fruits, veggies, fish, chicken, and drink lots of water about 8-10 flasses a day. I saw a lot of useful articles over here and i am impressed. I would like to relate my experience. I was overweight due to work.Just imagine working from morning to night and eating those unhealthy stuff like pizza,chinese food etc. I decided i had enough of these nonsense and pick myself up. I read various website and formulated my own diet and work out exercise.It was tough initially but i persisted. no, you do not need surgery but in your case I would focus more on losing fat first and then going for curves and please note...

I would have to disagree with #1, suggesting someone could burn 250-500 calories a day by drinking ice cold water. I believe the confusion arises by the fact that the above statement deals with two types of calories; a small "c" calorie: calorie to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water 1 degree Celsius vs. a large "C" Calorie: the amount of energy contained in food, additionally 1 Calorie=1000 (small c) calories. For example, if you drink 16oz of ice cold water, your body must raise the temperature of this water to 98.6F or 37 Celsius, rounding off, 454 grams of water (16oz) multiplied by 37 Celsius=16,798 (small c) calories, when converting this to energy, it equates to only 16.8 Calories. In, essence, if you drink eight-8oz glasses of ice cold water a day, your body will burn an additional ~67 Calories (per day), which is much less than the lower limit of your statement. So, in order to lose 1lb just from drinking eight-8oz glasses of ice cold water per day, it would take (3,500 Calories=1lbs; 3500Calories/67Calories per day) ~52 days.
