Exercise #2 & #3 here will do the trick

Adrian Bryant | 06.28.09 - 5:44 pm

Hey Adrian! I would like to strengthen my arms, but not make them look super muscular. I already have a fair amount of core strength, but my limbs are notably weaker. I just want more practical strength in my arms essentially.

Another thing is: I am a woman, a rather thin woman, and I'm afraid to work out my arms as I don't want to run the risk of decreasing my already little chest size.

So which exercises would be the best to strengthen my arms without decreasing or toning my chest?

Mel | 06.27.09 - 10:42 pm

Chamila,

you just need to go to Nowloss.com/50 to reduce all the unwanted fat on your body

Adrian Bryant | 06.02.09 - 7:19 pm

you are the best judge as to when it's okay to start working out your stomach muscles and i know you are anixous but keep researching and talking to doctors to make sure it's safe and when you feel ready - go to NowLoss.com/abs to work stomach

Adrian Bryant | 06.01.09 - 8:11 am

Thank you very much for your quick response Adrian!

aleksandra | 05.23.09 - 6:58 pm

aleksandra,

LEt get's this straight... whenever people talk about firming or toning they are really gaining muscle but...

As long as you use light weights (NOT TOO LIGHT) and 10-to-15 reps and/or use the same weight every workout then you won't have to worry about building huge or major muscles

Adrian Bryant | 05.23.09 - 6:36 pm

Hi Adrian
I recently found your website and it is exactly what I am looking for!
I am trying to get in better shape and being more active (started running, doing dancing exercises [sort of like aerobics] and eating healthier) and at the moment I am targeting the flab under my arms.
I saw your video with toning the arms using a dumbbell or a milk jug and I started it yesterday.
However, I always *hated* seeing muscles on women.
If I do this exercise more than twice a week, will it build actual muscle instead of tone the arm?
For now I enjoy being active and try to be as much as I can but I don't want to overdo any exercises and build major muscles.
Any help with this question is greatly appreciated!
Thank you for the video as well!

aleksandra | 05.23.09 - 4:26 pm

Adrian Bryant | 03.19.09 - 5:30 pm

I am 5'7 weighing at 125. I look pretty thin, smaller legs and smaller arms. I have done many workouts in the past, but that only got me toned, not increasing my muscle mass. I only have a 12 lb dumbell. Do you have any workouts for me to do to increase my muscle mass ? I'm also trying to fix a problem, im right handed and my left hand is about 2 times bigger, please help me even them out

If you're not overweight - then you'll need this weight loss plan to blast away stubborn arm fat

#85

Angela,

Watch this for getting rid of cellulite

#83
I have been running and weight training for 5 months now and everything is great except that I cannot get rid of the cellulite on my arms. Why and is there an exercise you can recommend?

thank you

#82

Ayesha,

Yes - it'll be fine to do arm exercises with light weights but in your case...

You should just focus on losing weight first instead of worrying about other goals for your body

#81
Thanks Adrian,
That was super fast and super helpful, I'm working out like 2 hours a day, I start with stretching for a few minutes and then do weights and cardio and finally I jump rope for like an hour... I want to increase the number of hours I work out and soon will be doing two workouts each of two hours a day... So as I take it, it'll be fine to do arm exercises, or should I leave it untill I lose some more weight and body fat?

Ayesha | 01.09.09 - 4:14 am
#80

Ayesha,

Using light weights will not make your arms bigger but you won't notice any difference unless you lose overall body fat so the most important thing for you is to get started on one of these weight loss plans here

and as you lose weight - your arms will look smaller ONLY doing arm exercises will not help you

#79
I'm 15 kilo's overweight I think, and have huge arms with dimples, I'm really working out as I'm hoping to get married in 1 year, I want to know, is it good to do arm exercises with dumb bells of like 2 Kg if you have massive arms? Wouldn't it make my arms bigger? Please advice... Thanks in advance!

is it ok to have your exercise after breakfast? how about in the evening before going to bed? i mean minutes before going to bed?
rhea,

When it comes to weight loss it doesn't matter if you eat before or after exercise - what matters is how much you eat so just worry about eating the right amount of calories to lose weight

Anytime to exercise is good for weight loss but it's best to workout in the morning on an empty stomach to burn more fat - go here to see why

#77

#67

rhea,

I don't think there's too much you can do to slim down if you're 5'2 & 99 pounds and actually...

You are almost underweight! - look at the height weight charts here and...

the best thing I can tell you is to be happy with your body because YOU ALREADY LOOK GOOD and I don't think you're arms can be that big at your weight anyway but...

the best i can also tell you is to stop using weights so your arm muscles will shrink.

#66

im 5'2 but i think my wight is 99 or 100.

avoiding arm exercise will surely shrink these muscles, but how long will it take?..

hi, how can you slim down your face? and shoulders too. help..

rhea | 12.25.08 - 9:32 pm

#65

rhea,

What's your weight & height?

If you're overweight - then you may just have to lose overall body fat to see your arms thin out or...

If your arms are mostly muscular then...

Going on a weight loss diet while avoiding arm exercises will allow your arm muscles to atrophy (or shrink)

#64
how will i get rid of my big arms? i mean, they are somewhat big compared to my body.i want them to be thin like any other girls has. what will i do to get rid of these muscled arms? please help,

Vee,

the best way to lose any stubborn fat is thru smarter diet & exercise so basically...

the best thing you can do is do this advanced weight loss plan to patiently lose your last few pounds of stubborn fat and...

You can go here to tone love handles

#60
Hey Adrian, Your techniques are very useful and effective, however i would like to know how i can tone the fat on my back (love handles) these are extremly stubborn and also the lower abdomen which is also just not shifting.

Vee | 11.27.08 - 6:52 pm
#59

angela,

8-to-12 reps is really the most you need because 15 reps or more is just an endurance exercise and you'll only be getting a temporary muscle pump making your muscles look toned for a short period of time but...

8-to-12 reps with a challenging weight done for 2-to-3 sets with the same weight or very little increase in weight will give you a permanent toning and prevent you from getting bulky

#58
I am currently very fit but i am trying to go for a longer leaner look. currently doin pilates... etc. my question to you is about toning up exercises... if i do the exercises at a moderate (challenging) weight about 12-15 reps with that make my arms bigger?? or should i opt for a lighter less challenging wieght and go for 25reps(multiple) burn out the muscle???? i have been fighting myself over this question. a lot of reps is better???

angela | 11.26.08 - 3:04 pm
#57

seyi,

If you want to make your muscular arms thinner or smaller then you just have to avoid using your arms so much so the muscles will atrophy or you can stay on a prolonged High protein diet so your body will use muscle for energy (which I don't really advise) but I think you probably look good as you are

#56
how do i make my toned big arm thinner?I mean my biceps are big but not flabby.I really want them lookin proportionate to my body cos my friends say they look bigger compared to my body size and shape.

#44

PIRLANTAA,

If you're feeling pain or "pulling" in your muscle (or flabby) area then that's okay - you're just working the right muscles to firm up your arms and if possible...

Make sure that ONLY your elbow joint moves (see video again) while doing the exercise

#43
What do you mean only the elbow should movee? If i feel a little pain on my upper arm..where the flapp is..is that good sign? Should i stop if it ebcomes too painful?

PIRLANTAA  | 08.04.08 - 8:15 pm
#42

GaCorey E.,

Yes - it could be that you're using too much weight and also...

If you're feeling pain in the elbow joint (and not in your muscles) then you need to simply stop doing this exercise and maybe see a doctor or another thing you can do is...

You can try to do other arm exercises that may not put your elbow joints in pain

#41
This makes my elbow hurt really bad in a very painful way. I'm using a 10 pound bell could that be it?

GaCorey E.  | 08.04.08 - 12:32 am
#40

Dee,

You should have nicer looking arms by the time of your wedding doing this workout but depending on how overweight you are...

You'll need to go on a weight loss plan to really get rid of arm flab.

#39
I just started doing your workouts today. I have a fairly small woman, but I have really flabby arms. I am getting married next year, and really need to loose the flab! How long do you think it would take to see results? Thank you so much for these videos!

Dee | 07.30.08 - 8:19 pm
#38

Silver,

Anything that you can comfortably hold onto that weighs enough to give you enough resistance to give your arms a good workout are good alternatives for dumbbells and/or milk jugs so...

A heavy book, a heavy purse, or bag filled with objects are good examples

#37
Are there any alternatives for dumb bells? Or Milk jugs

Silver | 07.20.08 - 8:45 am
#36

PIRLANTAA,

the weight should be heavy enough for it to challenge you for 8-to-12 reps for 3-to-4 sets.

I can't give you a definite amount of weight because every body is different but generally...

5 pounds is a good start for TRUE beginners, 7-to-10 pounds is good for most everyone and 10+pounds is good for advanced people

#35

How much should it wieght for it to work? And if I do it daily 20x each arm..when will I eventually see results?

Thank you for answering btw

PIRLANTAA | 07.15.08 - 8:18 pm

#34

phenelope,

You get rid of FLAB or FAT or extra weight with diet and/or exercise (cardio) so...

YES - it is possible to get rid of arm flab without cardio but let me tell you this...

Cardio + arm exercisses will help you keep flab off your arms forever plus they'll be firmer

#33
Hi, is it possible to get rid of flabby arms without doing any cardio exercises?

PIRLANTAA,

maybe even better results depending how much the bottle weighs with pennies

Hey,

Would I still have the same results using a water bottle full of pennies ?

PIRLANTAA |   07.07.08 - 8:47 pm
#28

Denice Ann,

Yes - you can get the same results using those wrist straps as long as they give you about the same kind of resistance the dumbbells do

#27
This is so much help ! Thanks ! I have just started my new healthy lifestlyle and am adding new excercises each week. My question is I have a bone disorder in my wrists that makes it hard for me to hold on to the dumb-bells. Can I get the same effects from using ones that strap onto my wrists ? I have the approval of the doctor to do which ever I choose, it is just easier on me to not try and hold onto the dumb-bells.

#26

Jenna,

Yes - the 5 pound is perfect for you now but once it gets to easy buy the 8 pound dumbbell

#25
Hello,

I went out and bought a dumbbell. I bought a 5 pound one because it was the heaviest I could hold comfortably. Is 5 pounds ok? The 8 pound one was really heavy for me.

#22

pureblkgal,

Yes these exercises will help but the main thing you need to do to make your arms look better is keep losing weight by doing what you were doing to lose weight

#21
My arms are extremely huge, as I have a great deal of weight to lose(at least 75-100 lbs.). I've recently stated walking alot, and switching up my diet and I have successfully lost about 15 lbs, and gone down one dress size. But I feel that my arms are the size of a 400 lb woman, which I am NOT! Will these exercises help? I know that when I reach my 100 lb goal, skin will be a problem, but will these exercises help with tighten the skin of my arms? Please help. My arms are so embarrassing, people stare when I wear sleeveless clothing.

Luke,

Do one or both of these exercises...

1. How to get bigger arms & chest muscles without weights

2. The fastest way to gain muscle mass in your arms & chest

and keep adjusting the weight you use until you reach the level of muscle tone you want.

#14
I'm trying to build up skinny arms as opposed to tone up flabby arms. I'm not looking to be body builder size, but more like a toned lightweight boxer (Amir Kahn for instance). Will I have to do different exercises to these? Is it a case of toning up what little I do have, and then muscle size will increase naturally through repetetive training?

Luke | 04.06.08 - 5:47 am
#13

Linda,

You don't want to use light weights - Use moderate-to-heavy weights that'll challange you for 8-to-12 reps.

Think about like this - If you can carry on a good conversation with one of your friends while doing this exercise then maybe the weights you're using are to light but...

Let's say a friend of yours is talking to you while doing this exercise but you really can't pay attention to them becasue you're focused more on doing your 8-to-12 reps then the weight you're using is fine.

i hope this makes sense but if it doesn't - just contact me again for help

#12

Kat,

If you void light weights and use moderate to heavy weights for 8-to-12 reps for 3-to-5 sets... I would expect to see visible results after your 4th-to-5th workout and...

You should only do this 1 exercise twice a week but...

Do this arm toning workout to get faster results

#11

Hi Adrian,
I lost 53 lbs and I am trying to get rid of my flappy arms. Can you advise me on how many pound weights I should use to follow your arm exercises. I have herniated discs in my back so I do not want to use too much weight that would pull on my back.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
