Hi, Adrian! I do interval running 4 times a week 35 to 45 minutes once a day. I'm 5'5 and 156 pounds. What can I do to still lose weight fast and build a bigger and rounder butt?

Go here to understand why you cant lose weight

Adrian Bryant | 06.28.09 - 6:07 pm

Hi Adrian,

I love LOVE your youtube video (Fast weight loss workout). It's really intense. I still havent been able to do it once completely.
The problem with me is I gained 15 pounds in the last 2 years. I never used to work out but since the last 2 years I been going to the gym a lot(minimum thrice a week). I do like 30 - 1 hr cardio and 1 set of weights(either leg, chest and arms or back and abs) twice a week and I eat the same. I still haven't been able to lose any weight. This is really weird. Any suggestions?

Wary | 06.28.09 - 6:00 pm

Robbie

Any activity is good enough to lose weight but...

I just dont know how intense you can get with jogging in place

Adrian Bryant | 06.06.09 - 6:05 pm

Hey Adrian,

What do you think about jogging in place? Can I do intervals that way as well?If so, how? Is it good enough to lose weight?

Thanks
Robbie

Adrian Bryant | 05.04.09 - 5:00 pm

HI Adrian,

i'm 180 cm and 90kg and want to get skinny and have muscles like Jason Statham.I want to go from fat2strat

I'm doing now low carb diet and tried some of your exercises but 2 months ago I've got an hernia operation in my bellybutton and aren't allowed to do things like crunches etc. for a while.
So I want to train my whole body without my Abs for 1-2 months.

What is your advice as a pro?

Thanks man,

ADRIAN BRYANT | 02.25.09 - 8:48 am

Hi I'm 15, 5 feet and weigh about 160 pounds and was wondering what would be the best work out for me. I would like to lose 40 pounds.

Lisa Ann | 02.25.09 - 2:28 am

jon,

The simple answer is that you're eating just enough and/or exercising just enough to maintain your weight so...

#1 - you either need to cut back on how much you eat (probably the drinking) and/or...

#2 - Look at 1-thru-5 here to lose weight

Adrian Bryant | 02.24.09 - 7:53 pm

I am 5'6 and weigh 160. I am not fat by any means but would love to be skinny. I run 4 times a week and eat decent, not really bad or really healthy, just average. I dont eat late at night. I run for a half hr and burn about 300 - 350 calories 4 times a week and try and play basketball any day I am not running. The main issue I face is that I go to a big party university and drink 3 or 4 nights a week. I dont gain any weight but I dont lose any wieght regardless how much I exercise. I feel I exercise pretty hard. Any advice?

jon | 02.24.09 - 5:49 pm

Ella,

NO -

The bad news is that when you lose weight - you lose weight all over your body and you can't pick and choose where the weight will come off from but...

As you continue to lose weight you will lose fat from your legs (if you really have fat there)

#40

Hi,
I'm 23 years old and I have a really annoying problem.
I have been on a diet for 3 weeks now, and I have managed to lose some weight - but the problem is that I always loose a lot in my upper body, and almost nothing in my lower body!
Is there anything I can do to really shake some weight specifically off my lower body?
(p.s. I'm from Europe so my measures are in kilograms and centimeters; so - height: 179cm; weight: 71kg (but 70% of that body weight is in my thighs )

Thank You!

2. I barely do any sit ups because i have hardwood flore and i have a mat but it still hurts my lower back when i do them.
3.i usualy eat 2-3 eggs for breakfast cooked in a frying pan with butter or olive oil. 1 hour and 30 minutes after i usualy eat a raw fruit (mostly apple or banana). 1 hour and 30 minutes after i eat another raw fruit (usualy another apple or banana) 40 minutes after i eat my lunch which has one fruit with a meal such as a tuna sandwhich or a sandwhich with assorted cold cuts. after this i dont eat until another 2-3 hours where i might eat before i work out or i migth not.

I am trying to lose 20 pounds in 4 weeks (Currently weigh 140; 5'6). I am starting with your interval workout and I will do that once a day along with diet and your at home chair workout. But I was wondering, if in order to meet my goal of 20 pounds in 4 weeks, should I do the intervals twice a day instead of one interval and the at home chair work out? Thank you so much!!!

Hi,
I have a quick question... Someone told me that High Intensity is not that good and is more focused on improving heart and lungs because, you only start burning fat after 20 minutes and once you get past a certain heartrate. Is this true? Also when do High Intensity on the tradmill im only burning around 150 calories at a time, is this right?

the reason why HIT is better is becasue it burns fat faster than anything else.

If you seriously think walking at a normal pace for 2 hours everyday is going to make you look better than someone who does HIT 20-to-40mn only 3-4 times a week then you are seriously mistaken.

If you dont have it in you to do HIT then do the easy stuff - you'll still lose weight but just not as fast plus you wont build fimer sexier msucles as you burn fat but back to the rel reason to do HIT...

HIT burns more calories both during and after your workout is over -

Hi, I wonder if you can give me other HIIT workouts for at home - I already do jumping jacks & ski steps but need other exercises as I feel like my body is becoming too familiar with those. I will get a jump rope to use in the back yard but do you know of anything else (I don't have the space indoors for at home running intervals). I'm already on your program to workout twice a day Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri with HIIT.

Adrian,
Today was my first day I ate fruits and vegetable, and white meat, every 3 - 4 times a day. Thanks for your encouragement with your videos, and talks. For a couple of years it been so hard for me, my fiancee was diagnosed with cancer, he went into chemo and radiation, I was so depressed, that I just wanted to eat, and do nothing, from work to the house, watch tv and watch spanish soap operas with my 80 years old cuban neighbor, widow, eating cuban food at night. Last Sunday I was infront of my computer, playing facebook games, and thinking if I could find someone to encourage me so I can look good and feel good about myself. Thanks God I found your website.

i'm 19, 5'5, and about 132-134 lbs.

i tried this today for the first time, and i realized the problem i'm having isn't really my leg mucles getting tired, it's just that my lungs aren't that great. i'm a smoker, and although i only have a few a day, i haven't gotten onto the "quit" level yet, and i realize that's diminishing my workout abilities.

you talk about knowing whether or not your workout was good enough because you won't want to do anything and wouldn't even consider doing this again for a few hours when you're finished. i went for 10 minutes [plus a 5 minute warm-up] on the treadmill, with 10 seconds of running at 7mph and 15 seconds of rest.
i don't think i'm pushing myself enough, yet i do.

what i mean by this, when i did this exercise i was sweating all over the place, my heart was beating out of my chest, and i thought i was going to collapse from lack of oxygen[slightly sarcastic, but close]. now i'm sitting here, 20 minutes later, and i feel like i could do it again. even when i stopped my legs were only very minimally tired.

is there any advice for improving my lungs other than just keep working at it? i don't know if the intensity i'm doing this at is going to help me, but with my breathing i was very close to not being able to finish what i did.

You're doing great! and yes...

Keep doing it and you'll get better and as far as knowing if you worked out hard enough....

What I should have said was... If you feel like you can workout for another 20-to-60 minutes after your 10-20 minute interval then obivously your workout was WAAY too easy

February 04, 2010 - 08:50

i've been trying to do this for a few days now, but i'm having trouble with my timing because of having to speed up/slow down my treadmill. would i get the same effect if i stood on the sides during my easy part instead of walking and having to keep adjusting the speed?

It's been lots of debate on that answer but in my opinion...

It does not matter as long as you are eating 5-to-7 meals a day based on what your goals are and If you're trying to lose weight - it may be better off to wait an hour or so after working out but overall...

I dont think that's an issue you need to worry too much over

4.0 is hard to an extent, i don't think it's real hard since i'm sort of used to it. but i don't want to run on the treadmill, i don't think i'd like that. so maybe i'd have to use the bike. there's a level on there called "fat burn". i heard it's great for losing weight because it's harder than "manual".

yesterday i did cardio. my trainer had me do an hour, 30 minutes on 2 different machines. i chose the treadmill first then the bike. on both, i switched between hard and easy, on the treadmill i was walking fast at 3.8 and 4.0, then brought it back down to 3.5, then 3.0 when i wanted to cool down. for the bike i switched between fast and slow at different levels. is this considered an interval workout or just regular cardio?

for doing intervals on the treadmill, is 4.0 hard enough, for me it is, my trainer always makes me walk at 4.0 even though i hate it.

is 4.0 hard enough? I dont know? - you tell me.

On a scale of 1-to-10 how hard was your hard parts? - if it wasnt over 7 then NO - it's not hard enough.

does jump roping really fast count for the hard part? then walking around my house for ten seconds count for the easy part?

I'snt it so that u will build bigger muscles with hight intensity intervals? like gerilja? So ur saying that I will loose fat if I do gerilja intervals? and at the same time go on a weight loss diet..?

Yes

and you wont lose muscle either! - you'll maintain muscle and firm up your muscles making them look better

are u sure? because i dont want big mucles.. and with gerilja kardio i've heard u get that more easily.. since it's high intensity intervals..?!
or should I do 4*4 intervals.. (does that help u to loose fat faster?) combined with weight loss diet..? what should I do? gerilja or 4*4 intervals? or just normal running in 45 min?
