I am a 30 yr old mother of four , my youngest will be 1 in October . I have gone from 150 before having kids to 218 now after my fourth and all over the spectrum in between the 12 yrs in between. I am having a heck of a time getting this weight off . Plus I dont sleep well at night and sometimes wake up hungry in the middle of the night and eat ( more often than I would really like to admit ) I have tried many times not to do this and can sometimes succeed , but I am having a hard time losing weight even with a different kind of diet and increased exercise . Any advice for me ? Can you help I need to lose this weight !!

I want to loose weight.
I drink decaffeinated coffee and club soda, I´m not used to drink tea and regular water makes me go to the bathroom like crazy, also I don´t like it.

Should I stop drinking any of them?
Is decaffeinated coffee as bad as regular? is soda water bad to loose weight?

Hi, I am 21 yr old female and I weigh about 130 and I am 5'2 in height. I was around 125 in high shcool then I gained up to 165 after two pregnancies and lost it. My overall appearance seems fine, but my stomach, there is where most of my fat is located. I heard that if you lose weight it will come off all over and firstly your breast and that is what happened to me after I had my two kids. So basically I don't want to lose anymore breast, but target the fat on my stomach and build muscle there and tone my buttocks area and breast and everything else is fine. Help Please!!!!

Hi Adrian,

I have been on a very healthy diet (proteins, vegetabels, complex carbs and lots of water) but recently I felt bloated and sort of constipated. Then I noticed that on days that I ate 2-3 cups of air popped popcorn (45 calories)later in the evening made a huge difference next day. Would my diet get ruined if I add air popped popcorn as a source of fiber? I saw somewhere here on your site to avoid popcorn if you want to lose weight, I don't use oil thought.

Hi Adrian,
I am 29 yrs,male,5 feet 6inch, 190 pounds. My calorie intake for a day is around 1400 spread across 4-5 meals. To loose weight with target at 165 pounds, I started doing exercise 2 weeks back and am burning around 600 calories a day 4 days a week through cardio. Is this fine? When I check in Calorie calculators it says to reduce weight I can still eat upto 1900 calories a day..Does taking less calories a day resist weight loss??

I am 5'3, and because he has me on five small meals daily, I really don't think I am getting enough calories. I still feel sluggish and tired sometimes. I would say I get in between 1200-1400 calories per day. I absolutely love the elliptical, but I think my body is getting used to it. I also do the low bike and treadmill. I'm asthmatic so I can only do so much at a time, but I've been pushing to do a bit more each time...

Hi Adrian:

I am 35 and have lost 9 pds on a carb cycling diet my trainer has me on. I begin with egg whites/oatmeal daily, along with two snacks of yogurt on days 1-2, and protein for meals/snacks for the next 3-6. An occasional green salad or veggie rounds out the diet. The problem is I seem to be stuck at 182. I mean getting beyond the 191 has me excited, but it's been two months and I know I should be able to lose more weight. I do cardio and weight training 5-6 days per week. Any suggestions?

8-to-10 pounds a month is a good goal to shoot for but once you get 10 pounds away from your goal it will take longer so when you get 10 pounds away from your goal... It may take a month and a half to lose last 10 pounds

I'm am 5'0 foot tall 20 years of age. Hi Adrian!
I read in the foods you must avoid while trying to lose weight article and noticed ham is also listed as bad food.
I have been eating a lot of ham(leg ham, extra lean ham etc), but when I look at the labels on the package at grocery shop, it shows very high protein, low calories and pretty low fat.
So I thought it is a very healthy option, also it's great value for money, really easy to cook and tastes yummy...so i've been eating heaps of it.

I will happily stop eating it if I found out how it is bad for you.
Could you pls explain this to me?

I weigh 176 pounds, I have started doing HIIT - whole body resitance training, some cardio and eating good food and less calories 2-3 months ago.
I have had some success-especially my arms,chest and legs looking bit more musular but it hasn't shown any noticable difference on my tummy fat.

hi - i am 26 and don't weight myself bc it makes me ill since i went up in 2 jean sizes (4 is tight where I used to be able wear 2 no problem) my question is that i am getting married and want to lose 20 lbs in 6 weeks. At first the weight watchers shouldn't be a problem as long as you stay in your calorie range but as you get closer to your weight loss goal or if you're having trouble losing weight...

You're doing just fine at your height & weight to be losing 1 pound a week because at your height & weight...

You're only about 8 pounds overweight and the less overweight you are = the longer it's going to take to lose those last few pounds so actually...

1 pound a week is GOOD for you! but...

You don't want to really cut calories and in my opinion...

It's best to increase exercise intensity to burn off those last few pounds and for your diet...

the only change I can suggest is that you try to make 40-to-50% of your total calories protein to speed things up a little but overall...

you're doing just fine.

Hi Adrian,

You've given me some advice before. I'm 5'3, 26 yrs old and have been dieting for 7 weeks and have lost 9 lbs. I started at 145 and I'm now 136.

I'm frustrated at how long it's taking. The first couple of weeks I was losing 1.5 lbs a week but now it's slowed to about 1 per week.

I'm eating about 1300 calories per day and work out 6 days a week (6 days of cardio for an hour for 500 calories burned and then 3 days I also add weight lifting). I'm wondering if I'm not eating enough? I read Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle and I've been eating small "meals" through the day (although sometimes the meals are as little as a piece of fruit and some nuts for about 200 calories) and he's warns that eating too little will slow weight loss. Should I be adding to my calories? Is it ok that some of my "meals" are actually just kind of snacks (it's not like I'm sitting down to some salmon and broccoli at like 3pm, I have some fruit, nuts, etc.)

I dont get it!! I dont eat cakes and sweets or icecream. I only sometimes have Chips with a Sandwich... how can you not!!

In I seem to store fat in my arms, I look like a football player. Lower back top butt and inner thigh.

I have been stressed out and I eat unlike some people so maybe that was it. Not like crazy fast food or junk just like extra steak or chicken.

I went from 145 to 165. If you cant eat 6 times a day what are you to do??

I am a young and athletic guy. I am just about 6 feet and weigh 190 lbs. I don't look huge, but I have no definition. I am going to start your workout program and have been reading about it. Do you usually gain 15 pounds during the holidays?

If you want to pig out during the holidays - I suggest you pig out on weight loss foods and strongly cut back on these bad foods but as for as losing 15 pounds in 2 weeks...

I was snacking on some brown in color Whole Wheat Crackers (the package called them "whole wheat") and then I saw this site. I checked the ingredient list and Enriched flour is the first ingredient, and whole wheat flour is number two. Does this count as something I should not eat. A bad food - white food in disguise?

Also, Pickles have zero calories, I often snack on these when dieting, but they are listed as a bad food on this site. Why are they bad?

I'm getting really frustrated!! up until about a year ago, I wouldn't exercise at all. About a year ago I joined a gym and started exercising about 3 times/week. I saw some results pretty fast. Then in January of 2008 I started meeting with a personal trainer. I started exercising 5 times/week, and eventually moved to where I am now, working out 7 times/week. When I started training I weighed 134lbs and had a body fat percentage of 26.6%. I recently had my last session, and I now weigh 142lbs!!! My body fat decreased to 23.3%, but I feel and look worse. I have been working out really hard every day, to the point where I am dripping with sweat. I am in college so I do drink about 1 night/week, but other than that my eating is pretty good. I always get wheat bread, low fat cheese, milk, etc etc. Occasionally I will eat things that aren't great for you, but VERY occasionally. I am disgusted whenever I look in the mirror and just want to see results comparable to the effort I've been putting in. I don't know what to do! help!

I am from the south so Sweet Iced Tea is basically all I drink. I assume the sugar is not good for me? I drink about 2-3 10 -15oz glasses a day. Some of it is caffinated, some isn't.

I ate 2.5 slices of pizza, had a yogurt drink, green tea (organic), and hand ful trail mix before 8. I stopp eating at 8..Will this still help me loose weight?

Oh and..this was just today's meal..I usually have hanful nuts and green tea and yogurt drink(ayran)

It depends on what kind of hotdog you eat?

If the hotdog is on whole wheat bun and if it's low fat then it's OK but...

You shouldn't try to make hotdogs a staple of your weight loss diet anyway

Good day sire
I am Hashim, 22 years old
I am facing some problems regarding to my body & my shape in general. Before 6 weeks I started a diet program which focuses on eating only proteins, fat, water and vegetables. And staying away from eating any thing related to carbohydrates such as fruits, bread, corn, milk, soda and sugar.

I am 179 cm tall and my weight before starting the diet was 142 KGs , now I weight 129 KGs.

What I need to know is, can I start weight training write now , and how can I start ?
My chest (breasts) are big – and that is embarrassing - and I need to stretch them?
And If I can't start weight training , could I just look for a solution to the embarrassing part ?

T am 5ft 7 and weigh 150lb.I only want to lose about 10lbs but as i have been drinking about 5 cans of diet coke a day(and full fat ones on the weekend!!) i seem to be struggling on my normal diet to lose anything! Have worked out my calorie intake which is 1222 to 1598 a day.What set amount should i stick to? Another question,why does it say that diet sodas are so bad for you?

Complex carbs like oatmeal about 30min-to-1 hour before a workout is best and after a workout...

If you're trying to lose weight and I assume you are... It's best to have some protein preferably a protein shake and complex carbs esp. those high in fiber to kill your appetite and increase your post workout fat burning

Adrian, I forgot to add to my last statements I just sent you, why am I so hungry after I exercise? And is protein the best thing to eat right after a workout? What about right before? I've heard to combine both carbs & protein right before a workout, is this true?

If weight loss is your goal - you can still Do this fast weight loss plan here and instead of whey or soy protein shakes for #2 - you can eat another 100 calorie protien source like raw nuts or cans of tuna and instead of weight loss pills - you can drink green tea for fat burner

wait the problem is that I dont want to gain muscles. one ultimately problem is that my mom doesnt trust protein water.
(she barely believes in any weight loss pills).

hello Adrian, im in a crisis right now. I do not how what to do myself.
I did the water diet thing you showed on nowloss. and now in like 4 days, my scale said I lost 4 pound that morining. then in like a few hours later it said I gain 4 pounds.....AGAIN!!!!can you tell me somthing in good facts, or is it that my scale is broken( or lying to me in my face). I want to lose like 10 or 15 pounds in like days with the weight loss.Im 13, I cant take weight loss pills my mom is constantly telling me not to do this diet. but I havto lose this weight so my dad could stop telling me that I look strong(makes me depressed) help me!

Are you still looking better or about the same as you gain weight? - if so , you have nothing to worry about but...

Can you tell me how many meals you eat a day (I think you said 4) and can you tell me how many total calories you're eating everyday and...

Tell me what your workout routine is and exactly what exercises you're doing.

And also Read #3, & #6-TO-9 again

Don't worry - We can both put our heads together and figure this out but like I said...

If you look good and people around you notice the difference - yu shouldn't worry

i am a 15 yrs old and having a really tough time losing weight all my life. im really athletic but cant seem to lose pounds. i currently weight 180 and have to drop to 160 in the next four weeks so that i can play fooball. theyre really counting on me to lose it but i live in a cuban fat-eating family..meaning nothing but fat foods and lots of rice. what can i eat that wont hurt me while at the dinner table but also help me drop 20 lbs in 4 weeks? Yes - be pateint but... You may already be closer to your goal of a better looking body than you think...

DO YOU LOOK 150 pounds? if no... then I wouldn't worry too much about what the scale says and just continue working out to maintain your lovely figure

My weight was 150 before and Im about 5 ft 7 inch tall and I gained 4 pds since working out to hit 154 now. I want to be at 135-140. And according to the BMI I'm not overweight. So thats why it is taking longer for me to shed the weight? So basically I should continue doing what I am and be patient? Should I also do some weight training aswell? And that link you sent for eating protein, was helpful thank you.

That's a sure sign you're firming up and gaining muscle - Read #9 of "10 ways to quickly break out of a weight loss plateau" to see why you shouldn't worry and...

10-to-15 pounds is GOOD! no matter how long it took and...

You can replace meat with other protein sources like raw nuts -See other protein sources and weight loss foods and...

You don't have to take protein shakes but may be a good option ONLY IF you hard time getting enough protein in your weight loss diet and since i forgot to ask you how much you weigh...

Your slow weight loss could be because you're not overweight so doing this plan to lose your last 10 pounds may be better for you and also...

reading the "10 ways to quickly break out of a weight loss plateau" link I gave you may help you get on track losing weight again

Hello, first of all thanks for replying back. Well I began the interval training program about a month ago since I heard that was the fast way to lose fat and burn calories fast. And I barely use to eat, or say enough. Now I have to force myself to eat at least 3-4 times a day. It’s hard for me to eat that many times, since I’m a vegetarian I run out of ideas what the heck to eat since eating salads, fruits, and vegetables gets lame. And I am a very picky on the stuff I eat; I hate tofu and stuff like that. My diet has become a little better now, since I make sure I eat on time and I stay away from junk food. However, I was bummed out seeing no results on the scale. I feel I am losing some weight or looking better but it don’t show on the scale. I do the workouts 3 days a week for about 45min or 1 hr is that enough? This really sucks, I never really had to lose weight before and my weight loss is only 10-15 pds. What can I eat to fulfill the loss of the meat that I don’t consume? And should I be taking some type of protein shake? Since I am vegetarian should I be watching carbs?
